New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez once said that if he could, he would be more than willing to trade in his MVP awards for a team championship. In other words, he would rather win a championship than receive an MVP award. Such claim, with all honesty, is really hard to believe.

No matter how much they deny it, every athlete’s dream is to receive the Most Valuable Player award. In professional sports, it is the ultimate individual prize. Why? Because apart from all the glamour and fame, a huge and attractive trophy, and a permanent place in the history books, being recognized as the most valuable player almost always brings an enormous bonus. In other words, being an MVP is always followed by the guarantee of earning millions of dollars.

MVPs get gigantic salary raises

To maintain a career, professional athletes need to renew their contract all the time. Having an MVP award on one’s resume is always the greatest bargaining chip. This holds true for Shaun Alexander, the Seattle Seahawk’s running back, who signed an eight-year, million deal after receiving the 2005 MVP award. Had he not won the award, he would probably still have a one-year contract of million, which has to be renewed every year depending on his performance. Though earning million a year is already remarkable, it’s still nothing compared to what he earns now. Allen Iverson is another example of athletes who made out quite well after receiving an MVP award. In 2003, the on-court leader of the Philadelphia 76ers signed a four-year, million contract extension.

MVPs get money-spinning endorsement deals

Since everyone wants to emulate the best of the best, people look up to MVPs as their idols. Marketers then capitalize on this by attaching their brands and products to these sports icons so that the products can easily reach their customers. For instance, even before he led his team to a Super Bowl victory, Indianapolis Colts gunslinger Peyton Manning was already making big bucks as a commercial pitchman for ad campaigns including Sprint, Nextel, Sony and Reebok. Apart from his annual player salary of million, he reportedly earns more than million a year in endorsements.

MVPs bring in money to the franchise as well

Having superstar players gives lots of earning potential for sports teams. Steve Nash, the NBA player who won two straight MVP trophies, put the Phoenix Suns back in the map as he helped build the image of the team as a strong force to reckon with. Although the Most Valuable Player award is an individual honor, team franchises can benefit a huge deal too through ticket sales and marketing campaigns. Due to Steve Nash’s remarkable talent and leadership qualities, thousands of fans flocked to the US Airways Center to catch a glimpse of the two-time NBA MVP. Similarly, millions came out to the park night after night to watch Barry Bonds, the seven-time NL MVP, try to beat the all-time home run record. After that, the San Francisco Giants didn’t think twice in offering him a one-year, million contract extension. FP

Bed Bugs!!! Avoid this hotel! warns TripAdvisor.com. Hoteliers are finding that notices posted on popular travel review sites can be disastrous for business. One upscale hotel saw its five-star rating on Yahoo! Travel plummet to one star overnight when guests reported sharing their bed with bed bugs. Increasingly, distraught guests whose sleep has been disturbed by the tiny blood-sucking pests are outing hotels on internet sites and filing lawsuits. BedbugRegistry.com is devoted to traveler accounts of bed bug attacks at hotels, complete with addresses and maps. Concerned hoteliers feel unfairly trapped. While hotels have a responsibility to protect the health and welfare of their guests, it’s usually guests who bring bed bugs into a hotel.

Adept hitchhikers, bed bugs travel into hotel rooms in guests’ luggage and set up housekeeping. Bed bugs are nuisance pests that feed on human blood. Difficult to detect, adults are russet brown and about the size of an apple seed, but nymphs are microscopic and nearly translucent. While bed bugs do not transmit disease, their bites can cause itchy, red welts, psychosomatic stress and severe allergic reactions. When their original meal ticket checks out, bed bugs burrow into crevices in or near beds, behind wall plates, inside clocks and under carpets to await their next victim. They’ll crawl along electrical and plumbing conduits and air ducts in search of new prey, infecting adjacent rooms. Maids may inadvertently spread bed bugs through an entire hotel wing on cleaning carts. It doesn’t take long for a few bed bugs to become a major infestation.

Increasing bed bug infestations in all 50 states prompted the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to declare a bed bug epidemic in April. Pest management companies have reported a 71% increase in bed bug complaints since 2001, according to a survey by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). Hotel outbreaks have become so numerous that NPMA and the American Hotel & Lodging Association are cohosting a National Bed Bug Symposium August 25 in New Jersey and August 27 in Seattle.

You don’t have to stay in a flophouse or hostel to encounter bed bugs. Bed bugs are just as prevalent in luxury hotels and respected national chains. “Just because a motel (appears) clean and is expensive… it does not mean that they don’t have bedbugs,” Derrick Bender, a faculty assistant at the University of Maryland’s Cumberland Extension Office, told the Cumberland Times-News. While staying at an upscale 0-a-night Annapolis hotel this summer, Bender and his wife were attacked by bed bugs.

Juries and judges have been siding with bed bug victims when cases go to court. In the 2003 landmark case (Matthias v. Accor Economy Lodging), Toronto siblings received a jury award of 2,000 against Motel 6 after sharing a room with bed bugs. In 2006, a Chicago couple sued a Catskills resort for million, claiming more than 500 bed bug bites left them physically and mentally scarred. “I was miserable,” plaintiff Leslie Fox told the Associated Press. “My skin felt as if it was on fire and I wanted to tear it off.” In 2007, New York opera star Allison Trainer sued the Hilton hotel chain for million after suffering more than 100 bed bug bites at a Hilton Suites in Phoenix. “They were all over the bed and the comforter and the pillows, and I pulled the sheets off and they were just everywhere,” she told ABC News. In 2008, a guest at San Francisco’s Ramada Plaza Hotel received a ,000 out-of-court settlement, the largest to date, after 400 bed bug bites left her with a disfiguring skin condition.

While some hoteliers have irresponsibly ignored guests’ complaints, in most cases the hotel didn’t realize the room was infested when guests checked in. A 2008 suit against the owners of the Milford Plaza hotel in Manhattan (Grogan v. Gamber Corp.) is expected to test the limits of hoteliers’ liability to their guests when bed bugs are present. A 2008 New York Supreme Court ruling allowed two Maryland tourists bitten by bed bugs during a 2003 stay to proceed with a million negligence suit against the hotel and its pest control contractor. A request for punitive damages was denied, the court ruling that the hotel’s actions did not show “recklessness or a conscious disregard of the rights of others.” Three weeks before the Grogans checked in, the hotel’s pest control contractor was directed to exterminate bed bugs in rooms near the room later inhabited by the Grogans. At issue is whether the hotel and its pest control contractor should have considered the life span and migratory abilities of bed bugs when treating the infected rooms and treated a larger area. The case has the potential to significantly increase a hotel’s responsibility and liability in providing guests with safe, bed bug-free rooms.

“Those in the lodging industry who still improvidently use their unlucky guests to monitor for the presence of bed bugs run the risk of being held liable for significant damages in civil suits,” warns Timothy Wenk, an attorney with Shafer Glazer, LLP, a New York/New Jersey civil defense firm. Hotels must be proactive about discovering bed bugs on their premises, not merely react to guest complaints. The EPA now recommends that hotels institute regular preventive inspections to find and treat bed bug infestations in their early stages. “In addition to consulting with pest control managers,” Wenk recommends, “hoteliers should consider using bed bug monitoring systems in their rooms. If hoteliers can show that they deployed a monitoring system, they can later argue that they took reasonable and prudent steps to safeguard their guests from these blood-thirsty pests. Evidence of this type should be given great weight by judges and juries.”

Several effective bed bug monitoring devices have recently come on the market. Each has unique strengths and capabilities, so it’s advisable to consult a pest control professional before making a selection. Hotels that use bed bug-sniffing dogs to identify bed bug activity should consider using bed bug monitors to protect against infestation between scheduled canine inspections.

* NightWatch by BioSensory, Inc. is the just one of an effective new type of bed bug monitoring devices on the market. Extensively tested and vetted by Purdue University entomologists, it uses heat, CO2 and a pheromone lure to attract, trap and kill bed bugs. It has a small footprint and has a clock timer with an automatic “on” setting and a CO2 cartridge that lasts several days.

* CDC 3000 by Cimex Science is a discrete, portable monitoring and trapping device housed in a briefcase. Mimicking a human body, it lures bugs within a six-foot radius, annihilating them with CO2, making it safe around children and pets. This monitor has a CO2 cartridge that lasts about eight hours.

* Bug Dome by Silvandersson will soon be available from the Swedish company that developed eco-friendly bed bug eliminator Cryonite. Using an attractant to lure bed bugs into replaceable glue traps, it plugs into any wall outlet.

* BB Alert Active by MIDMOS, available in Europe, should reach U.S. markets soon. The small monitor uses replaceable packets of chemical attractant to entice bugs into a glue trap.

Hoteliers who fail to monitor and quickly eliminate bed bugs pay a devastating price in negative media attention, legal fees and lost customer loyalty. It pays to be proactive about protecting your guests – and your hotel – from these annoying pests.

Kirkland is an urban district in King County, Washington, United States. It is a community of Seattle, Washington positioned on the Eastside. With approximately 47,000 inhabitants, it is the ninth largest city in King County, Washington. The city features a waterfront as it downtown, which no other city in Eastside has. This city sits at the east shore of the second largest lake in the state, Lake Washington. The community has organized recreational activities that are based in water sports and pertinent activities.

This beautiful city has awe-aspiring parks, notable fancy restaurants, and not to mention beach resorts. Fairly recent to explore, Google’s move into Kirkland helped sell homes to keen home buyers completely unfamiliar to this city.

Larger population is a subsequent result to these relatively new home owners. Real estate in this city is made easier with the help of search engines. Searching online is proven to be more resourceful as all information applicable to the online search is in the vicinity of the World Wide Web. So popular, Google is the first verification of doubtful queries. This search engine has swiftly appropriated itself a reputation of being the most viable option when searching for information online.

The most wanted feature that is made applicable in the web is “click to enlarge” on the virtual map of the opted area. The most viewed choice of residence is at the Springs Condo, followed by the stunning scenic preference of Forster Woods. Other than that, there are other options of two storey houses in the quiet neighborhood of Houghton. These houses in the listing are fully furnished and other details are available in the web page.

In most of the listing websites, proprietors can upload previews of full snapshots of the interior and exterior house angles. Then, interested house seekers can bid on the favored place and the house is sold to the highest bidder.

Google’s move into Kirkland helped sell homes to those who wish to reside in the impressively serene city of Kirkland. Savvy home shopping has never more feasible at the advantage of both sellers and buyers.

I paid a visit my sister in The City that Never Sleeps who is working in the infirmary last month. 7 years has gone past since we last saw each other. I missed her so much and have been bidding for so long that there would be a chance that we would see each other again. Coincidentally, my hubby will be taking part in a vital business organization convention in, guess where?, the city of New York. The convention will last for about 3 days and I reckoned that this is the perfect chance for me to run into my sis. That nighttime I implored my husband to tag me along.

I was extremely nervous and excited about the trip that I had a travel plan ready for my stay there. I was considering going to the Statue of Liberty which is the symbolic representation of freedom in the United States; the Empire State Building – because of my wish to become just like Meg Ryan in that movie Sleepless in Seattle; Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center and the Radio City Music Hall; Ellis Island Immigration Museum; the Stanton Island Ferry, the Museum of Natural History of America; Central Park; the Art Museum of the Metropolitan; The Museum of Modern Art and of course, grab a bite of Grays Papaya Hotdogs. There are so many things to consider, and so many places to go, hopefully I would be able to achieve all of this in three days. When we arrived, my hubby was off to his business gathering straightaway and I and my sis blasted off instantly since we have numerous things to discuss.

One thing I discovered in New York is that individuals are invariably in a rush. Its like living in the fast lane and if you mellow down you’ll surely be left behind. It is a good matter humankind was able to create devices like the mobile phone to make life much easier. These communication tools really does a great job of connecting people anywhere in the globe. In this matter of linking up people, Nokia is not only the pioneer, but also the best. Their latest mobile phone model, the Nokia 5230 is highly planned for those individuals who are incessantly moving. Preferrably for individuals whose time is extremely valuable and cannot afford to skip a second but still be able to keep track of other things also.

The Nokia 5230 mobile phone permits you to play and listen to your cherished music via the FM radio, MP3 or MP4 player; take and look at photographs (even modify it) and video recordings while still being connected in the internet. This phone is an ideal travelling companion as it offres A-GPS navigation and the modern variant of Ovi Maps, great for pedestrian and driving navigation.

Nokia 5230, get connected and remain connected, live the feeling of not having to worry about missing anything specially of time.

I missed her heaps and I have been wishing to run into her for the longest time. Coincidentally, my hubby will be seeing to a critical business organization meeting in, guess where?, New York. This would be a brilliant chance for me to go and run into my sister since the gathering will take about three days straightaway. That nighttime I begged my husband to take me with him.

I had already set up a travel plan for the length of my stay in New York and I’m extremely overjoyed about it. On my way there I was thinking of the American symbolic representation of freedom, the Statue of Liberty; the Empire State Building – because of my wish to become just like Meg Ryan in that movie Sleepless in Seattle; Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center and the Radio City Music Hall; The Immigration Museum at Ellis Island; Staten Island ferry, American Museum of Natural History; Central Park; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Museum of Modern Art and of course, grab a bite of Grays Papaya Hotdogs. There are numerous things to see, and numerous places to go, hopefully I would be able to accomplish all of this in three days. As soon as we established into the hotel, my husband was off forthwith to his business gathering while I speedily blasted off to see my sister to catch up on things.

What Ive observed from the people in New York is that they are invariably on a rush. Its like dwelling in the fast lane and if you mellow down you will definitely be left behind. It is a delightful matter mankind was able to come up with devices like the mobile phone to make life much easier. In that way, people can closely watch time and the rest of the globe. In this aspect of linking up people, Nokia is not only the groundbreaker, but also the best. Their latest mobile phone model, the Nokia 5230 is highly fashioned for those individuals who are invariably on the go. This is best for those whose time is precious, cannot afford to lose a single minute but still desire to keep track of things.

Hearing Music through the integrated MP3 player and FM Radio, Getting pictures and videos with the incorporated camera with the ability to modify them. This phone is an ideal travel companion as it offres A-GPS navigation and the modern version of Ovi Maps, perfect for pedestrian and driving navigation.

Time as it turns old instructs many lessons, you have to be ready to wherever it will take you, lead you and what it will instruct you so go acquire the Nokia 5230 now and get engaged constantly with time and with life.

I visited my sister in New York who is working in the hospital last month. It has been about 7 years since we last seen each other. I missed her so much and have been hoping for a very long time that there would be a chance that we would be seeing each other once more. As Luck Would Have It, my husbands company is sending him to go see to a critical business meeting and guess what, it is in The Big Apple. The convention will last for about 3 days and I thought that this is the ideal opportunity for me to run into my sister. That night I begged my husband to tag me along.

I had already prepared an itinerary for the length of my stay in The Big Apple and I’m actually overexcited about it. I was considering traveling to the Statue of Liberty which is the symbolic representation of freedom in the United States; the Empire State Building – because of the movie Sleepless in Seattle I wanted to be just like Meg Ryan; Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Station and the Rockefeller Center; Consume the renowned hotdogs at Gray’s papaya hotdogs, see the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, stroll through Central Park, view exhibits American Museum of Natural History, take the Staten Island ferry, and view the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. Whew, call it compulsive reasoning but I was expecting that I can fulfill that in 3 days. When we arrived, my husband was off to his meeting at once and I and my sis blasted off instantly since we have numerous things to discuss.

What Ive noticed from the individuals in New York is that they are constantly on a rush. Its like existing in the fast lane and if you mellow down you will most surely be left behind. It is a delightful thing humanity was able to create devices like the mobile phone to make life much easier. That way, people can closely watch time and everyone in the world. This mobile phone is an ideal travelling companion as it offres A-GPS navigation and the latest version of Ovi Maps, best for pedestrian and drive navigation.

Nokia 5230, get connected and remain connected, live through the experience of not having to worry about missing out on anything especially of time.

People who glance at a roof with solar panels in place don’t realize the multiple factors behind their design and placement. Incorrectly calculating one element of a solar power system can dramatically reduce the equipment’s power-generating capacity.

One of the most important factors to consider before roof or pole-mounting photovoltaic cells is the degree of shading present. Individual cells are arranged in arrays or series on single photovoltaic or “PV” panels. Shade falling on just one cell can shut down the whole series, including cells that are in full sun, and can create a current drain throughout the system.

The degree of light the panels will receive is also a major concern. Latitude and cloudiness are the greatest factors in determining luminosity. Two identical power arrays installed at the same latitude, for instance one in Seattle and another in Spokane, WA, will provide radically different amounts of electricity. The panel in Spokane, which receives semi-desert levels of sun will outperform the panel in perpetually cloudy Seattle.

The panels should be tilted at approximately the same angle as the site’s latitude and, in the northern hemisphere, they cannot face more than 15 degrees off due south. Optimal tilt during the summer months would be 15 degrees less than the area’s latitude, and in winter 15 degrees more. Many residential roofs have neither the angle nor the correct orientation to capture the best sun in all seasons.

The systems that return the best performance are pole mounted and actively track the sun. Computer-controlled motors move the PV panels. The goal is to keep the surface precisely perpendicular to the sun, thus maximizing light capture and energy production. Tracking technology will increase energy production in a given system by 25% over stationary units.

Magnetic declination is also a factor, a detail of which most solar power neophytes are completely unaware. To achieve the proper angle for the panels, the difference between the magnetic poles of south and truth south must be added or subtracted. Minneapolis, for instance, has an almost zero adjustment for declination, while Seattle’s is approximately 19 degrees. Declination maps must be consulted for correct orientation of the array.

Finally, the relative performance of PV panels will vary by manufacturer and model. It’s best to read independent reviews in addition to consulting the product specification sheets to make a good evaluation. The highest performing residential solar power systems will likely be so expensive that full amortization in net electricity savings will be impossible. With good choices and a careful consideration of all relevant factors, however, substantial electrical savings are possible, which is why residential solar power generation continues to grow in popularity.

So far in the 2008 season, there has been the usual mix of upsets, surprise teams doing great, favored teams doing poorly and everything else that fans love about the NFL. But even just a few weeks into the season, it’s not too late to start looking towards the end of the season. Which hot starting teams will miss the playoffs? And which slow starters will make a late push to get themselves into the mix? These are important questions to answer, whether you want to make a long shot bet on an eventual Super Bowl winner or you want to have a better week to week strategy when making your football picks online.

Teams that drop off and miss the playoffs:

* Washington Redskins. The Redskins simply play in a division that’s too strong. As the season goes on, Philadelphia will improve and Washington will lose many of its divisional and conference games as teams prepare for them better.* Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately for Aaron Rodgers, his first season starting in Green Bay won’t go exactly as planned. While they have a lot of talent, the Bears have a stronger defense and the Vikings have a stronger all around team.* San Diego Chargers. This team can’t keep on coming back every single year. This year there are too many injuries, like the season ending knee injury of Shawne Merriman. Plus those bad calls early could signal a bad omen and looming bad feelings in the locker room.

Teams that will improve and make the playoffs:

* Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks have basically been playing without wide receivers, but a few of their top ones will be returning. Not much stands in their way in a weak NFC West.* Jacksonville Jaguars – The defense on this team is too good to not turn it around. David Garrard is steady, and occasionally excellent at quarterback, and the running game has a duel threat.

Teams that will stay right where they are:

* Indianapolis Colts – This will be the first time in a long time that the Colts don’t make the playoffs. But the offensive line is a mess, and not one but two teams stand in front of them.* Tennessee Titans – One of those teams is the Titans, staring down at the Colts from first place. Their defense will keep them in every game and the running attack is improving.* Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders – Let’s face it, these two teams love last place, and nothing in the foreseeable future is going to change it!

It’s never too early to start planning for the second half of the season and the postseason when it comes to betting on the NFL. Map out which teams you think will improve or fall off, and you will have a better handle on who to make your online bets on.

If you or your company are in need of large scale printing, but aren’t able to locate a domestic printer for a reasonable price, the American International Printing Exchange (AIPEX) can help. AIPEX, a Seattle-based printing brokerage with heritage stretching back almost fifty years, has ample experience in putting the benefits of inexpensive offshore printing in the hands of North American content producers.

For any job costing over ,500, AIPEX can easily arrange inexpensive offshore printing sources using their network of international printing contacts. They specialize in calendars and year-end annual reports, as well as cookbooks, posters, greeting cards and both hard-bound and soft-bound books.

In the past, AIPEX has brokered inexpensive offshore printing services for companies as large as Costco, and as small as the Wild Alaska Wildlife Treasury. Because of the unique nature of their relationships with inexpensive offshore printing companies, AIPEX is able to scale print jobs to suit individual clients-always at an enormous savings over domestic printing prices.

AIPEX’s fastest and most reliable inexpensive offshore printing partners are located in the Pacific Rim.

To receive a quote from AIPEX, potential clients need only send a request with some basic details about the size and complexity of the print job. AIPEX will consult with suppliers and return an estimated service price, at no obligation.

Clients in need of inexpensive offshore printing prefer AIPEX’s style of service not only because of the company’s long history of successful printing brokerage, but also because of the high caliber of the individuals at the helm of the company’s executive board. President Emeritus Ralph M. Van Dyke is perhaps best known for once having installed the first Pako Automatic Film Processor in the Pacific Northwest United States. He also founded Seattle’s first color separation company, in 1952. Shortly afterward, he collaborated with Dr. John Sherman, in the Geography Department at the University of Washington, to develop and produce maps for the blind. From these auspicious beginnings, it was only a matter of time before Van Dyke would rise to prominence in the world of inexpensive offshore printing.

President Jack L. Roberts assumed ownership of AIPEX in 2003, after Van Dyke stepped down from the position. Known as “Jack” by his many friends and business associates in the inexpensive offshore printing trade, Roberts has experience as a direct mail marketing executive. The former US Marine also worked in the sales and creative departments of two prominent color services, then owned several of his own businesses before finally turning to AIPEX and the world of inexpensive offshore printing brokerage.

In the coming years, Roberts expects to completely revamp AIPEX’s presence on the web, and also to recruit a nationwide sales force of independent agents. The company’s rich history of inexpensive offshore printing success continues unabated.

AIPEX is a Seattle-based printing brokerage, specializing in inexpensive offshore printing for books, posters, calendars, and year-end reports. To find out more, visit AIPEX, or call (206) 783-5990/ Toll – Free 1-866-MY AIPEX (692 – 4739).
